The municipality has a rich and storied history…in Borovo, Obretenik, Gorno Ablanova, Exar Yosev, Volovo, and Brestovitsa there are archaeological and ethnographical artifacts. In Borovo, a sizeable Thracian silver treasure was found in an ancient tomb dated to the 4th century B.C. Another treasure of the municipality are 5 church bells that were a gift from the Russian Tsar Alexander I. He gave these tow the village of Brestovitsa at the end of the Russian-Turkish war, thanking the village for caring for Russian soldiers in their hospital. The bells can still be seen today in Brestovitsa.
In each of the towns and villages within the municipality there is a Cultural Center, which is home to various activities (from local libraries to folk dance troupes).
The municipality is home to numerous musical groups, and the folk group from Borovo has traveled to such countries as Italy, France, Turkey and Moldova to perform.
