- Unique objects from a Thracian silver treasure (known as the Borovo Treasure) and a Thracian tomb of c. 4 BC have been discovered on the territory of the town of Borovo. Evidence of the presence of an old Roman road has been discovered between the villages of Batin and Gorno Ablanovo.
The first evidence of the village dates from 1657, when it was mentioned under the name Chiflik Manastir. In the following years it was called Gorna Manastiritsa, Gorno Manastirtsi and other similar variants of the name.
During the Russian-Turkish Liberating War, the Russian headquarters was situated in the village of Brestovitsa, which is now within the boundaries of the Borovo municipality.
